Brushfire Pottery Studio is committed to positively affecting the lives of children. We strive to achieve ways to enhance every child's visit to our pottery studio by stimulating and encouraging the educational benefits associated with the entertaining and engaging activities we provide in our studio.

Art in general is defined as something aesthetic to the senses. A “work of art” is both an activity and a result; One of the great aims of education is to make it possible for children to be engaged in the process of creating something themselves.

Through our continued research, we continually strive to alter the creative experiences we provide. Some of our research relative to the benefits of art for children is listed below:

The Benefits of Art Education for Children

According to a recent Harris Poll, 93 percent of Americans believe that the arts are vital to providing a well-rounded education for children. Researchers tell us that getting an early start in the arts can make a real difference in the lives of children. Participation in the arts is important. Research shows that the benefits of early arts education extend way beyond providing a creative outlet for children. Arts education can help develop:

Imagination, cognitive skills, creative abilities, problem solving, fine motor skills, language, social skills, focusing, listening, risk taking, tolerance, uniqueness and more...Benefits of Arts Education Source: Americans for the Arts

Art activitity stimulates and develops the imagination and critical thinking. It refines cognitive and creative skills. Arts participation has a tremendous impact on the developmental growth of every child. Creative artistic endeavors strengthen problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, adding to the overall academic achievement and school success of children. Art develops a sense of craftsmanship, quality task performance, and goal-setting skills needed to succeed in the classroom and beyond. What we provide teaches children life skills such as developing an informed perception; articulating a vision; learning to solve problems and make decisions; building self-confidence and self-discipline; developing the ability to imagine what might be; and accepting responsibility to complete tasks from start to finish. “Creative activity is also a source of joy and wonder, while it bids its students to touch, taste, hear, and see the world. Children are powerfully affected by storytelling, music, dance, and the visual arts. They often construct their understanding of the world around musical games, crafts, imaginative activities, painting and drawing.” (Hamblen, Karen A., Theories and Research That Support Art Instruction for Instrumental Outcomes)

Group activities, such as pottery painting builds social skills. As children make decisions about color, shapes, textures and designs involved in the process of painting pottery, they enhance their descriptive, non-verbal and cognitive capabilities. The art supplies children choose for their work reflects their approach to process and outcomes.

We at Brushfire Pottery will work hard to provide all children with an entertaining, engaging experience in painting pottery, while seeking to provide them with proven educational benefits.
